About This Tour

This family-run business has been passed down through generations, beginning in 1947 when Mark’s grandfather first launched a ferry service to the picturesque island of Ireland’s Eye. Mark learned the trade from his father and, in 2003, took the helm to establish Island Ferries. Today, the business has evolved into Howth Cliff Cruises, offering a range of unforgettable coastal experiences alongside the original Ireland’s Eye ferry.

Step aboard and enjoy a peaceful journey across the Irish Sea, with stunning views of Howth Head, rugged cliffs, and the surrounding Dublin Bay coastline.

Weather permitting, the ferry will land on the island, allowing passengers to disembark and explore. Please note that access is via steep steps carved into the rock (not a pontoon), so this experience may not be suitable for everyone and should be undertaken at your own discretion.

Once ashore, visitors can explore the island at their own pace — from the historic Martello Tower to scenic walking routes and the west-facing beach, perfect for a refreshing sea swim. Ireland’s Eye is also a haven for wildlife, home to puffins, gannets, cormorants, and other seabirds, making it a popular destination for nature lovers and birdwatchers.

As a protected bird sanctuary within the Dublin Bay Biosphere, dogs are not permitted on the island. Visitors are kindly asked not to disturb nesting areas and to take all rubbish home, helping preserve this unique environment.

This is a return ferry service, offering a tranquil escape just minutes from Howth Harbour.

If you wish to experience the island from the sea only without landing, please book our Ireland’s Eye Tour here.
